Spanish police find cocaine hidden in bananas
Zoom:

Aryanews- Spanish police announced Wednesday the seizure of 1.4 tonnes of cocaine discovered hidden in cases of bananas shipped to Spain from Ecuador.
The drugs were found in packs of the fruit delivered to two shops -- 710 kilos (1,570 pounds) in a shop in Alicante, southeast Spain, and another 715 kilos at a shop in Seville, southern Spain, according to a police statement.
Since April, Spanish authorities have been closely following shipments of bananas from the South American country in an attempt to intercept drug traffickers.
The surveillance is part of an ongoing operation started in February, said police, who have failed to make any arrests following the discovery.
Spain is Europe's main port of entry for cocaine coming from Latin America and traffickers are using increasingly inventive ways of smuggling the drug.
On Tuesday, police in Spain arrested seven drug traffickers who had concealed 814 kilos of cocaine in a truck camouflaged to look as a contender in the Paris-Dakar overland rally.
